Description

New York City to Eastern Long Island:
From Colonial Origins to Gilded Age Grandeur

Dates: Sept. 28 - Oct. 2nd

Presented in Partnership with Preservation Long Island, The Richard Hampton Jenrette Foundation invites you to explore Long Island.

Starting with a day in NYC, see some of the exclusive social clubs and homes where Gilded Age New Yorkers wined, dined, and socialized.

Then head to Long Island’s Gold Coast, to Cold Spring Harbor, which was transformed from a modest fishing town to Gatsby era grandeur, with mansions designed by many of New York’s leading architects, like Stanford White for Railroad barons and US Presidents.

We will then continue farther east, seeing Long Island’s colonial faming origins and whaling towns such as Sag Harbor, where architects like AJ Davis and Minard Lafever designed homes and gathering places on whale oil fortunes. Finally, experience a bit of the glitz and glamour of the Hamptons, before ending on secluded Shelter Island, the seat of one of the region’s founding families.
